About me: Not much to tell. I’m an old guy that still enjoys playing video games.

I’m happily married, and I hope my wife is too. :)

We have a couple of dogs that are fairly insane, but also incredibly wonderful.

My first home video game system was a console that allowed you to play tennis, hockey, and 2 other games that I can’t recall on your tv.  All 4 games were variations on the game pong!

Through out my life I’ve gamed on many different systems:

I have loved video games right from the start, and while I tend to enjoy FPS  (First Person Shooter) games like COD and RTS (Real Time Strategy) games like Red Alert I find that I prefer Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Games (MMORPG) now.  Even though I’m not the most social person (I’m trying to be more so, but it’s difficult), I like the idea of playing in the same game/environment as other people.  And when I do actually join a group of other players I tend to have a really good time.  I tend to do very well at solo play since that is how I spend a great deal of my time.  When I do group, at least I understand tactics and am happy to contribute to the group dynamic, but I’m usually at a slight gear disadvantage as most higher end equipment comes from doing group content.

I’ve played just about every genre of MMORPG.

The MMOS I have played (for at least 1 hour) are: (bold Items are personal favourites)

  • Everquest
  • Everquest II
  • Asheron’s Call (barely made it to an hour, it was horrible)
  • Dark Age of Camelot
  • The Sims Online
  • Earth and Beyond
  • Eve Online
  • Star Wars Galaxies
  • Secret World Online (really wanted this to be a fav, but it disappointed in the end)
  • City of Heroes
  • Champions Online
  • EQ Next beta (one of the few betas I have ever tried, It was not good)
  • DC Universe Online
  • Star Trek Online
  • Black Desert. Online
  • Red Dead Redemption Online
  • GTA V Online
  • Several Chinese ones that no longer exist and I can’t remember the names
  • Age of Conan
  • Anarchy Online
  • WWII Online
  • World of Kung Fu
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic
  • New World (current favourite)

Honorable Mention (almost made it an hour before deleting):

  • World of Warcraft (Found it to be too cartoony after playing EQ2)
  • Elder Scolls Online
  • FFXIV
  • Asheron's Call 2 (if you count character creation, 40 mins)

One thing I’ve found in every MMO regardless of publisher and genre is the more I stay away from the game forums, the happier I am with the game.

You’ll be hard pressed to find a more wretched hive of sum and villainy this side of Mos Eisley Space Port than the forum brats.  I swear these people think spending 40bucks entitles them to Black Card service and if things don’t go their way, or there are any delays they lose their minds, screaming and crying like entitled little babies.

If even half the people that swear they will “quit this dead game if xyz isn’t buffed/nerfed!!!“ actually did quit, the community would improve by orders of magnitude.

At any rate, I do have other hobbies, though the Pandemic has kind of put a damper on them.

I used to go hiking every week with a meetup group, but after spending more than a year sitting around, have lost the motivation to go out with a group.  Hand in hand with that was photography.   I will eventually pick both of these back up, once it’s safe to hang out with people you don’t know very well again. :)

For now it’s TV and New World MMO, and that’s fine :)
